Napoli on fire in time for Real Madrid, while PSG head to St James’ Park

Jimbo brings in the continental big guns - James Horncastle, Raphael Hongstein, Julien Laurens and Alvaro Romeo - as the Champions League returns. Napoli have scored 8 goals in their last 2 matches, with Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia seemingly back to their best. A fine time for Jude Bellingham’s Real Madrid to be visiting. PSG head to Newcastle after another 0-0 at Clermont. Leipzig host Man City after losing their sporting director last week. And Thomas Tuchel is starting to wonder whether he’s the problem at Bayern. Domestically, it’s a good time for Genoa and a bad time for Andrea Pirlo’s Sampdoria. Leverkusen make their best start ever while Lyon are in as much bother as the Nantes mascot. Produced by Charlie Jones.   RUNNING ORDER:  • PART 1: Moment of the weekend (03.30) • PART 2: Champions League Tuesday preview (09.30) • PART 3: Champions League Wednesday preview (27.00) • PART 4: Bundesliga - Leipzig and Bayern have issues (38.00) • PART 5: A look around France and the Europa League (47.00) • PART 6: Contrasting fortunes for Genoa & Sampdoria (57.00) • PART 7: Relations remain frosty between Barca and Sevilla (64.00) SIGN UP TO THE ATHLETIC TODAY FOR £1 A MONTH FOR 12 MONTHS • theathletic.com/totally Learn more about your ad choices. Big wins for Wolves, Villa & Luton, and a big defeat for VAR at Spurs-Liverpool

Jimbo convenes with Carl Anka, Tim Spiers and Sasha Goryunov after a Premier League weekend full of shocks and surprises. Tottenham leave it extremely late to continue their unbeaten run and defeat 9-man Liverpool. But the post-match talk is dominated by the officiating error that led to Luis Diaz’s goal being incorrectly disallowed for the Reds. Which way would you vote now in the VAR referendum? The champions are beaten as Man City lose their 100% record at Molineux. Steve Madeley tells us how a Neto and Dawson inspired Wolves did it. Villa press the life out of Brighton as they win 6-1 while Luton give a truly Dychian performance to secure their first ever Premier League victory at Goodison. Plus player fatigue and welfare, and Roy Hodgson makes history at Old Trafford. Produced by Charlie Jones.   RUNNING ORDER:  • PART 1: Tottenham 2-1 Liverpool (03.45) • PART 2a: Wolves 2-1 Man City, with Steve Madeley (26.00) • PART 2b: Bournemouth 0-4 Arsenal (36.00) • PART 3a: Aston Villa 6-1 Brighton (38.00) • PART 3b: Everton 1-2 Luton (42.00) • PART 4a: Player fatigue and welfare (47.00) • PART 4b: Man United 0-1 Crystal Palace (50.00) SIGN UP TO THE ATHLETIC TODAY FOR £1 A MONTH FOR 12 MONTHS • theathletic.com/totally Learn more about your ad choices. Jimbo welcomes Duncan Alexander, Caoimhe O’Neill and Tom Williams into The Athletic’s studios ahead of another packed weekend of football. Man City are knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Newcastle while Liverpool progress past Leicester thanks to a screamer from Szoboszlai. Now it’s time for Tottenham as Jurgen Klopp tries to tackle Ange-ball on Saturday. James Horncastle joins us to discuss the remarkable turn of events in Italy that has led to the league’s star striker Victor Osimhen deleting all pictures involving Napoli from his Instagram. The WSL is back this weekend as we ask if the Big Fish can help propel Chelsea to a 5th successive title. Jimbo, James Horncastle, Raphael Honigstein, Julien Laurens and Alvaro Romeo are back with your continental catch-up on all the weekend’s football. Alvaro Morata inspires Atleti to a derby win over Real Madrid. But it’s Barcelona and Girona that sit top of La Liga. Hear why the Gironistes are like a Spanish Brighton. PSG don’t even need Kylian Mbappe to beat up a Marseille side in turmoil. But Luis Enrique’s side are below Brest and Nice in the table. Inter make it 6 wins out of 6 in Serie A while Juventus suffer their first defeat of the season in shambolic circumstances at Sassuolo. Spurs impress at Arsenal, Everton win at last and the Blades are beaten 8-0

Jimbo’s joined by Charlie Eccleshare, Adrian Clarke and Daniel Storey after the most super of Sundays in the Premier League. Tottenham twice come from behind to take a point from Arsenal in the North London derby. A hugely impressive performance from Postecoglou’s side with Bissouma and Udogie catching our panel’s eye. Not so impressive from Sheffield United who suffer their record home defeat, 8-0 to Newcastle, giving Paul Heckingbottom cause to worry about his future. Jacob Tanswell tells us about Villa’s win at Chelsea as Mauricio Pochettino’s lemons analogy comes back to haunt him at Stamford Bridge. And Everton’s attack clicks at last as they win at Brentford. Brighton outclass Man United, as Arsenal edge past uninspired Everton

Jimbo is joined by Daniel Storey, Laurie Whitwell and Matt Davies-Adams after a nip/tuck weekend of Premier League football. Arsenal find a way to break down an Everton team with very little life about them, even with a takeover in the offing at Goodison. Meanwhile Man United fans turn on ten Hag’s decisions as the brilliant De Zerbi oversees another win for the Seagulls. Liverpool, Tottenham and Man City all come from behind to earn morale-boosting victories, with the panel struck by Haaland’s humanity and how mass stoppage time will affect team’s mentalities going forward.
