Inter hit Lazio for six as Barca lose again in La Liga

Jimbo’s joined by his continental crew - James Horncastle, Julien Laurens, Pol Ballús and Seb Stafford-Bloor - to look back on the latest week of action from across Europe.  Atletico Madrid took advantage of their faltering rivals Barcelona and Real with a 1-0 win over Getafe to move level on points with Hansi Flick’s side at the top of the table - and with a game in hand. That’s after Barca’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Leganes, while Carlo Ancelotti’s men were held 3-3 by Rayo Vallecano.  It’s just as exciting over in Italy, with Atalanta flying high after their historic 10th consecutive league win. Napoli got back to winning ways to sit two points behind, while Inter also kept up the pressure with a statement 6-0 win over Lazio on Monday night. In the Bundesliga Bayern tasted defeat for the first time courtesy of a lacklustre 2-1 loss at bogey side Mainz, meaning Leverkusen closed the gap to four points courtesy of a 2-0 win at Augsburg. Plus, are Leipzig in the process of getting their season back on track? And in Ligue 1, PSG remain unbeaten and sit seven points ahead of the rest of the pack after their 3-1 win over Lyon. United stun City in Manchester derby, plus Martin, O’Neil sacked

Jimbo, Duncan Alexander, Daniel Storey and Tim Spiers have plenty on their plate after a narrative-packed Premier League weekend. The Manchester derby is won in sensational fashion by Man United with two late goals and Amad Diallo lighting up a drab derby. Is Man City’s place in the top 4 at serous risk? Two managers lose their jobs on Sunday. Gary O’Neil after Wolves’ apocalyptic defeat against Ipswich, and Russell Martin after Southampton’s mauling by Tottenham. Elsewhere Matt Davies-Adams watched Chelsea close the gap on Liverpool to just 2 points. But it’s a good weekend for the league leaders who rescue a draw with 10 men, while Arsenal draw a blank against Everton. Oh and Forest are in the top 4 after their own late comeback against Aston Villa. Produced by Charlie Jones. RUNNING ORDER:  • PART 1a: Man City 1-2 Man United with Laurie Whitwell (04.00) • PART 1b: Southampton 0-5 Spurs, Martin sacked (15.00) • PART 1c: Chelsea 2-1 Brentford with Matt Davies-Adams (24.30)  • PART 2a: Liverpool and Arsenal drop points in different fashions (31.00) • PART 2b: Brighton 1-3 Crystal Palace (38.00) • PART 3a: Nottingham Forest 2-1 Aston Villa (42.00) • PART 3b: Wolves 1-2 Ipswich, O’Neil sacked (49.00) • PART 3c: Newcastle 4-0 Leicester (56.00) Learn more about your ad choices. City crisis deepens ahead of Manchester derby, plus the World Cup’s future

Jimbo welcomes Michael Cox, Duncan Alexander and Tom Williams into the studio for a bumper edition of the Totally Football Show. Champions League matchday 6 sees Man City lose for the 7th time in 10 matches, this time in Turin against Juventus. Does Pep regret signing that new contract ahead of the most uncertain Manchester derby in years? Elsewhere Real Madrid are victorious against Atalanta in perhaps the game of the season so far, and the Brest fairytale continues. The 2034 World Cup will take place in Saudi Arabia, while the 2030 World Cup will take place in 3 different continents. The panel express their dismay at the process and ponder the future of the World Cup. The Premier League weekend also sees some Sunday 7pm kick-offs with the under-pressure Postecoglou and the inimitable Palmer in action. Defining week for PSG & Real in Europe while Atleti are on the charge

Jimbo’s joined by Julien Laurens, Pol Ballús, Seb Stafford Bloor and James Horncastle for a deep-dive into matchday six of the Champions League - plus a look back at all the weekend’s domestic action from around Europe.  PSG are on their worst run of the season - three games without a win in all competitions and just one goal scored. They gear up for a crucial Champions League meeting with Salzburg, while in Ligue 1 Marseille and Monaco closed the gap at the top to five points. Serie A has a new leader - with Atalanta taking advantage of Napoli’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Lazio to move two points clear at the summit courtesy of their own 2-1 win over Milan. So, could Gasperini’s men get the better of Real Madrid in their European showdown on Tuesday night in Bergamo? In the Bundesliga Dortmund warmed up for their midweek meeting with Barcelona by drawing 1-1 with Gladbach, while Bayern Munich’s lead at the top of the table stands at six points following their 4-2 win over Heidenheim.  And in La Liga Barcelona’s slump in form continued with a 2-2 draw at Betis - meaning Real and Atleti are breathing down their necks, both with games in hand over Hansi Flick’s men. It was Diego Simeone’s side who picked up the most dramatic result of the weekend, coming back from 3-1 down with an hour played to win 4-3 against Sevilla.  Produced by Lucy Oliva.  RUNNING ORDER:  • PART 1: Moment of the weekend and Champions League previews - (00.45) • PART 2: Ligue 1 review - Goal-shy PSG flatter to deceive - (13.00) • PART 3: Serie A review - Atalanta take top spot as Lazio get the better of Napoli (twice) - (23.25) • PART 4: Bundesliga review - Marco Rose spared as Bayern go six points clear - (37.55) • PART 5: La Liga review - Atleti win nine in a row as Barca slip up again - (50.00) Learn more about your ad choices. Man United are beaten for the second time in a remarkable week at Old Trafford and then part company with director of football Dan Ashworth the very next day. But can Nuno take Forest into Europe? There’s late drama everywhere on Sunday, including Bournemouth snatching victory from the jaws of defeat at Portman Road. Stuart Watson has more on another hammer blow for Ipswich. Jimbo welcomes Natalie Gedra, Duncan Alexander and Charlie Eccleshare into the studio in the midst of a week packed full of Premier League football. Liverpool drop some rare points after a classic 3-3 draw at St James’s Park. Will there be another slip-up on Saturday in what could be the last ever derby at Goodison Park? Arsenal cut the gap to 7 points after bombarding Man United with corners at the Emirates. Are we living in the golden era of set-pieces? Chelsea are also 7 points behind the leaders after their 5-1 win at Southampton. Next up, a trip to Tottenham, which last season gave us one of the craziest Premier League fixtures ever. Barcelona falter again while Atalanta win eight in a row

Pol Ballús, Julien Laurens, Seb Stafford Bloor and James Horncastle are alongside Jimbo for your weekly fix of continental action. La Liga is getting rather interesting all of a sudden, as Barcelona fell to a shock 2-1 defeat by Las Palmas - their first victory away at Barca since 1971! Real Madrid took full advantage and bounced back from their midweek Champions League disappointment at Anfield with a 2-0 win over Getafe. It means they’re just a point behind Hansi Flick’s side with a game in hand. But who’s that in third and just a point further behind… a resurgent Atlético Madrid?! Atalanta are showing they mean business in Serie A this season as they recorded their eighth straight win in all competitions with a 2-0 victory at Roma on Monday night. They’re just a point behind leaders Napoli, who were 1-0 winners at Torino thanks to Scott McTominay’s first half strike. But there were scary scenes in Fiorentina as their match with Inter was suspended and then abandoned when Edoardo Bove collapsed in the 16th minute. Thankfully the news since has been positive after receiving treatment in hospital.  It ended 1-1 in Der Klassiker between Dortmund and Bayern on Saturday evening, but there’s concern for Harry Kane who went off early with what appeared to be a hamstring injury. Eintracht Frankfurt were big 4-0 winners in Heidenheim on Sunday to close the gap on Bayern at the top of the table to four points. And in Ligue 1, PSG’s poor week continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Nantes - the first time they’ve come from behind to take a point all season. But despite dropping points Luis Enrique’s side are seven points clear at the top of the table - and have Marseille to thank following their 2-1 win over Monaco.  RUNNING ORDER:  • PART 1: Moment of the weekend and latest on Edoardo Bove - (00.45) • PART 2: Bundesliga review - Dortmund and Bayern share the spoils as Leipzig’s horror season continues (13.00) • PART 3: Ligue 1 review - Disgruntlement in Paris as PSG held (26.40) • PART 4: La Liga review - Barcelona’s mini slump continues while Real and Atleti close the gap (37.40) • PART 5: Serie A review - Napoli’s slender win keeps them ahead of a charging Atalanta (50.30) Learn more about your ad choices. Liverpool sweep aside Man City - who are their most likely title challengers?

Jimbo assembles Duncan Alexander, Daniel Storey and Matt Davies-Adams onto the pod after a stunning and seismic weekend of Premier League football. Liverpool inflict a 4th successive league defeat on champions Man City at Anfield. Arne Slot’s serene start continues as the Reds go 9 points clear in the title race. Who are the most likely challengers? Is it Chelsea for whom Caicedo and Cucurella are playing sensationally? Or is it free-scoring Arsenal? And are we getting fooled into thinking Bukayo Saka will break the assist record? It’s an emphatic victory for Man United in Ruben Amorim’s first game in charge as the pressure mounts on Sean Dyche at Everton. Plus have Leicester taken too big a punt on Van Nistelrooy and could Newcastle ever challenge the title? Produced by Charlie Jones. RUNNING ORDER:  • PART 1: Liverpool 2-0 Man City with James Pearce (05.00) • PART 2a: Man United 4-0 Everton (20.00) • PART 2b: Chelsea 3-0 Aston Villa (26.00)  • PART 2c: Spurs 1-1 Fulham with Jay Harris (34.00) • PART 3a: West Ham 2-5 Arsenal (38.00) • PART 3b: Wolves 2-4 Bournemouth (46.00) • PART 4: The rest of the Premier League weekend (50.00) Learn more about your ad choices. Liverpool conquer Real Madrid, ahead of meeting with fragile Man City

Jimbo welcomes Rory Smith, Duncan Alexander and Tom Williams into the studio after another incredible week in the football. Liverpool take down Real Madrid 2-0 to maintain their 100% record in the Champions League, as Kylian Mbappe has another nightmare night for the visitors. How many more Anfield nights will Mo Salah experience? Next up for the Reds, fragile Man City who are in full-on crisis after letting a three-goal lead slip against Feyenoord. Pol Ballus joins us to try and get inside the mind of Pep Guardiola. Elsewhere in the Premier League, free-scoring Arsenal travel to a possibly resurgent West Ham while Chelsea look to show their title credentials at home to Aston Villa. Liverpool take on Real Madrid as Napoli spoil Ranieri’s return

Julien Laurens, Pol Ballús, Seb Stafford Bloor and James Horncastle join Jimbo for a look ahead to matchday five in the Champions League - and a look back on the return to domestic action across Europe.  All eyes on Anfield on Wednesday night as Real Madrid take on old friends Liverpool - having got right back into things in the La Liga title race with their commanding 3-0 win over Leganes which leaves them just four points behind leaders Barcelona with a game in hand. That’s after Hansi Flick’s side saw a two-goal lead slip away in their draw at Celta Vigo ahead of Tuesday night’s meeting with Brest.  It’s still incredibly tight at the top in Serie A, with Napoli beating Roma 1-0 to spoil Claudio Ranieri’s first match back in charge - thanks to a goal from a certain Romelu Lukaku. The less said about Milan 0-0 Juventus the better as Thiago Motta’s side continue to uninspire with a trip to Villa Park looming on Wednesday…  Bayern Munich and Harry Kane continue to lead the charge in the Bundesliga after their 3-0 win over Augsburg - but do they need a statement win against PSG to show their credentials? Plus, a big win for Dortmund on the pitch against Freiburg - but drama at their AGM off it.  And in Ligue 1, PSG warmed up for that trip to the Allianz Arena with a 3-0 win over Toulouse - so can they finally translate their domestic dominance into a much-needed victory in the Champions League?  Produced by Lucy Oliva.  RUNNING ORDER:  • PART 1: Moment of the weekend & standout Champions League ties (00.45) • PART 2: La Liga review - Real close the gap ahead of Anfield visit (08.35) • PART 3: Serie A review - Napoli maintain slender lead as Juventus underwhelm (19.40) • PART 4: Bundesliga review - Kane breaks yet more records as Dortmund drama continues (36.35) • PART 5: Ligue 1 review - PSG gear up for Bayern visit and Marseille go off grid (46.45) Learn more about your ad choices. Tottenham thrash Man City at the Etihad, as Cooper loses Leicester job

Jimbo is joined by Daniel Storey, Tim Spiers and Adrian Clarke after an incredible Premier League weekend full of plot twists. Man City suffer their 5th defeat in a row and possibly their most shocking ever under Pep Guardiola as Spurs run riot 4-0 at the Etihad. What’s going wrong? Could it be an era-defining result? Jay Harris was there. Next up for City, leaders Liverpool who are now 8 points clear despite being given a major scare by Southampton on Sunday. Leicester took the surprise decision to sack Steve Cooper after just 12 games in charge. Rob Tanner tells us why they really don’t want to end up back in the Championship. Ruben Amorim’s Man United score after 81 seconds but are held 1-1 by Ipswich in his first game in charge. Looks like there’s plenty that needs to change if he’s to stamp his Sporting style on the Red Devils. Plus why Hurzeler is hot and Sean Dyche is not. Produced by Charlie Jones. It’s the international break but Jimbo has a stellar cast of Rory Smith, Duncan Alexander and Charlie Eccleshare to accompany him through it. The headlines this week have been dominated by the suspension of Premier League referee David Coote after the release of several videos online. We discuss how VAR culture and social media have led to referees becoming main characters in the football soap opera. Harry Kane is upset at England players for pulling out of this Nations League squad. Will he see him as an executive at Bayern in 20 years continuing to call players out? Claudio Ranieri comes out of retirement to take charge at Roma for a 3rd time. Is he the most universally popular manager out there? Gary Lineker is leaving the BBC’s flagship football programme. An incredible Serie A title race, while Real close the gap on Barca

Jimbo’s got Julien Laurens, Seb Stafford-Bloor, Pol Ballús and James Horncastle alongside him for a deep dive into a fascinating weekend of action across the continent.  It’s fair to say the Serie A title race is hotting up, with just two points separating Napoli in first and Juventus in sixth! That’s after Inter and Napoli shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the San Siro, while Atalanta, Fiorentina, Lazio and Juve all picked up big wins.  Real Madrid clawed back some ground in the La Liga title race after their 4-0 win over Osasuna which included a hat-trick for Vinicius, a first goal of the season for Jude Bellingham - and a devastating injury for Eder Militao. They’re now six points behind Barcelona with a game in hand after Hansi Flick’s side fell to only their second league defeat of the season at Real Sociedad in controversial circumstances... Bayern Munich find themselves five points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table after their 1-0 win over St Pauli courtesy of Jamal Musiala's sensational strike. Meanwhile, Dortmund’s horror start to the season rumbled on with a 3-1 defeat at Mainz - and Leverkusen’s week to forget continued as they were held by Bochum.  And in Ligue 1, it’s business as usual for PSG who continued their unbeaten start to the season in a 4-2 win over Angers. Not such smooth sailing for Roberto De Zerbi’s Marseille, beaten 3-1 by newly promoted Auxerre at the Velodrome which prompted the former Brighton boss to say he’ll ‘leave the money and hand back my contract’. *** We’ve been nominated for Podcast of the Year at the 2024 Football Supporters’ Association Awards! Inter face Arsenal, Bayern hit 50 and are Ajax back?

Pol Ballús, Julien Laurens, Seb Stafford Bloor and James Horncastle are alongside Jimbo for your weekly dose of action from across the continent.  We’ve reached the halfway stage of the Champions League league phase, with some tasty matchday four ties to preview including Inter v Arsenal, Liverpool v Leverkusen and PSG v Atléti. Domestically, it was a reduced schedule in Spain following the devastating flash floods in Valencia. We discuss the reaction to any football at all being played following the natural disaster - which included Barcelona's derby win over Espanyol. Napoli were stunned in their own backyard, handed a 3-0 defeat by Atalanta in Antonio Conte’s first defeat since his first game in charge. It means Inter are just a point off top spot in Serie A as they closed the gap thanks to a 1-0 victory over strugglers Venezia.  In Ligue 1, PSG extended their lead to six points thanks to a narrow 1-0 win over Lens to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign. After being unbeaten since April, it’s now back-to-back defeats for Monaco as Adi Hütter’s men slipped to third following their 1-0 defeat by Angers.  And in the Bundesliga, Dortmund picked up a precious three points for beleaguered manager Nuri Şahin as they inflicted a first league defeat of the season on Leipzig. Bayern took full advantage, scoring goals for fun to move three points clear at the summit - while Leverkusen find themselves seven points off the pace after their goalless draw with Stuttgart.  Plus, are Ajax finally back?! Michiel Jongsma joins us to reflect on Saturday’s 3-2 win over PSV - which moves Francesco Farioli’s side five points behind Eredivisie leaders Eindhoven with a game in hand.  *** We’ve been nominated for Podcast of the Year at the 2024 Football Supporters’ Association Awards!
