Life is Short with Justin Long

·

  Wondery

Is it just me or is time flying by? How do we make the most out of our short time here on Earth? That’s what we’re here to find out. I’m Justin Long and I’ve been an actor for most of my life, so I’m used to getting inside the heads of the characters I play. But now that I’m getting older (I’m in my forties, yikes), I want to peek inside the heads of real people to learn how they find meaning in life. I’m also very curious what their favorite snack food is, and what emoji they use most often — ya know, the REALLY important stuff. Every episode I’ll get personal with all kinds of people, from actors to musicians to deep thinkers who fascinate me. My brother Christian is on hand each episode to keep me honest, and occasionally remind me about some of the embarrassing things I’ve done over the years. Join us, or if you have more important things to do, that’s okay too — life is short! Listen ad-free on Wondery+ or on Amazon Music with a Prime membership or Amazon Music Unlimited subscription.

Life Is Short(er): Smodcastle, Betting Bros, and Pivoting 👻

The guys discuss Justin’s recent appearance at Kevin Smith’s Smodcastle theater for a Tusk screening, and all the fun little gifts and letters he received from fans. Then they debate what the loser of their football season betting should have to do (unfortunately the ring of hair is out). Then we read a letter from an Ohio school teacher named Franny asking the guys if they’ve ever decided to pivot and how they got the courage to take that leap. Finally, a voicemail from a stoned listener named Casey offers up a barrage of quick fire WYRs, including whether they’d rather be bald on their head or bald on their face. Life Is Short(er): Jets Tragedy, Haunted Hotel, and Face vs Junk 🎡

The guys both let out a collective sigh about Aaron Rodgers tearing his Achilles Heel during the first Jets game of the season. Then Justin recounts the paranormal experience he and Kate had at the historic Red Lion Inn in Massachusetts. Then we read a letter from Chelsea who listens to the pod while working as a massage therapist, her Would You Rather asks whether we’d rather lick a port-o-potty seat or a ride handle at a fair/festival 🤮. Finally, Jen from Alberta, Canada writes in referencing Justin’s stint as a cheerleader in Dodgeball, and has a WYR that sparks a debate about faces and junk. Life Is Short(er): PorchFest, Hibachi Memories, and Giggle Fits 🧀

The guys catch up about Christian’s experience at PorchFest this year, the annual Connecticut tradition where bands set up stages on neighborhood porches (and how Christian didn’t move from his porch the whole time). Justin recounts the walk down memory lane he and Kate had after having Hibachi at the Sakura Japanese restaurant in Westport, CT. Then we read a letter from Kathy about how afternoon sex is the best and that noses contain erectile tissue (hence Justin’s broken capillary issue), then she ends it with the saddest WYR we’ve ever heard. Finally, Courtney leaves a voicemail asking for the guys to break down Office Space, and she offers up a much sillier WYR. Life Is Short(er): Bachelorette Finale, Crying Kids, and Voice Memos 🎶

The guys discuss the season finale of The Bachelorette and how happy they are that Charity picked the guy they wanted her to, and Christian explains what lessons he learned after making an 8-year-old girl cry at a pool party. We read a letter from a listener named Kelsey from Maui about how Justin inspired her to secretly record her grandmother (and her boyfriend) via the voice memo app. Finally, Andrea calls in on her way to a Regina Spektor concert to weigh in on the cons of having long nails, plus she wants to know what band’s concert the guys never miss. The guys catch up after some time apart and both have Aaron Rodgers and the show “Hard Knocks” on their minds (they don’t both have to have the same Shortlist!), and Justin recounts his very Dawson’s Creek experience visiting Kate’s hometown and meeting her high school boyfriend. A listener named Brandon writes in the share his excitement about the Jets season, asks about the guys’ experience going to sports games when they were younger and offers up a sports-themed WYR.
