Although she fell for the trends of the time (BIG STAR Jeans and INDIAN MOTORCYCLE baby tees included), she always held out for the big sample sales where she could maximize her budget. As her wardrobe evolved, so did her reputation among peers—and unfortunately, so did her anxiety issues, which began in her teens and would become a lifelong companion.

During university, Amy worked at Mendocino, one of Toronto’s most coveted fashion destinations. As a store manager, she received a $750 clothing allowance every quarter and 50% off everything else. For Amy, it wasn’t just a job—it was a jackpot. Customers asked to shop with her by name, and her friends constantly reached out for fashion advice. Her confidence—and passion for the fashion industry—continued to flourish.

In her twenties and early thirties, Amy held respected positions with some of Canada’s most influential media brands, including Tribute Magazine, MuchMusic, and MTV Canada. She had the opportunity to learn from industry leaders, including Jamie Salter, now the founder and CEO of Authentic Brands Group—a powerhouse in the global fashion space.

Amy’s final role in the corporate world was, to her, the ultimate dream job: working at FLARE, Canada’s #1 fashion magazine. Surrounded by the best in the industry, she found validation not only in her work but in her personal style, which continued to earn admiration.
