It might be an interesting story if they were kinder, but the fact that they are trying to stamp the magic out of him that make them so memorable.·      8:06 The cupboard under the stairs. Yay! We absolutely need to see the cupboard under the stairs. Harry is only there for the first book of the series, but it marks a very important checkpoint in Harry’s life. It is where his Hogwarts letters were addressed, and it is where his journey begins.·      14:13 The Dursleys are stupid. Nay! It is easy to be stupid and mean. But if they were a little smarter, we might hate them more. The same way Umbridge is smart and can get her way, the Dursleys might benefit from a little more brains.·      19:56 4 Privet Drive is a nice place to live. Yay! If 4 Privet Drive and the surrounding area is pretty nice and a pleasant enough place to live, it means more for Harry to dislike it so much. If it was a terrible place, he would have more of an excuse to hate it. But it is the Dursleys themselves that make it such an uncomfortable place for him.·      23:37 Harry and Dudley are friends from the start. Nay! The moment when Dudley and Harry part ways at the end is the most important for the Dursley/Harry arc. That is the capstone of Harry’s time with the Dursleys. Harry only realizes what he had until it is gone. ·      27:22 The Dursleys accept Harry’s help in fleeing Voldemort. Yay! The two form a sort of alliance by the end of the story, and that truce is what allows the Dursleys to accept Harry’s help and find shelter for the conflict to come.
