Vampires wait for permission, black-eyed children ask to enter, and modern paranormal lore frequently warns that demons can gain access only after someone has opened the door, literally or spiritually. But how old is that idea?In this episode of Southern Demonology, JJ traces the folklore and theology of supernatural visitors through ancient protective rituals, biblical traditions, Irish death omens, fairy lore, vampire folklore, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, black-eyed children, Christian demonology, and the long history of treating doors and thresholds as spiritually vulnerable places.Along the way, we encounter houses protected against unwanted supernatural intrusion, unexplained knocks that announce death rather than request entry, fairy traditions in which hospitality can be either dangerous or morally necessary, and the literary development of the vampire’s famous need for invitation. The central question is whether evil was historically believed to require permission before entering a home, or whether modern horror has combined several very different ideas about hospitality, consent, divine authority, spiritual vulnerability, and protected space into one supernatural rule. The answer turns out to be considerably stranger than simply keeping the door locked.#SouthernDemonology #Folklore #Demonology #SupernaturalFolklore #ThresholdLore #HauntedHouse #Paranormal #ParanormalFolklore #VampireLore #Vampires #Dracula #BramStoker #BlackEyedChildren #FairyLore #IrishFolklore #DeathOmens #DeathKnock #AncientMagic #AncientReligion #BiblicalStudies #ChristianDemonology #SpiritualWarfare #OccultHistory #ReligiousHistory #Hospitality #Liminality #SupernaturalVisitors #Halloween #SpookySeason #OctoberHorrorSupport the show
