In this episode, I share the unfiltered story of my brief and challenging experience living in Tanzania in 2018. After five years in China, I moved to Tanzania with my then partner (now husband) Chris for what I thought would be an exciting new adventure. Instead, it turned into a series of unfortunate surprises.

Tune in as I break down why the move didn’t work, the lessons I learned, and what you can do to avoid making the same mistakes I made.

What you’ll hear in the episode:

  • Why Tanzania wasn’t the right fit for me – It’s not about bashing Tanzania, but about expectations vs. reality and how almost everything that could go wrong went wrong.
  • What to do when things go wrong – How I should have stepped up and taken control of my situation when outside factors (like the worst rainy season in 20 years) derailed my plans. You can't control everything but you can control your response and your actions.
  • The breaking point – The moment I knew it was time to leave and how I navigated the emotional side of the move.
  • Key lessons learned – The importance of destination research, accountability in planning, and the importance of knowing when to leave.
