In this episode of Real Life Real Crime, Woody Overton takes a deep dive into the controversial Jacob Mansell case in West Feliciana Parish and explains why he believes there is far more to the story than the public has heard.Mansell was arrested in March 2026 on sexual battery and second-degree rape charges involving his 13-year-old daughter. After posting bond, he was initially ordered to have no contact with her. That condition was later rescinded, and Judge Kathryn Jones awarded Mansell majority custody of his three children—a decision that generated significant public controversy and prompted District Attorney Sam D’Aquilla to seek the recusal of Judges Sydney Picou Walker and Kathryn Jones. This week, a grand jury indicted Mansell on the upgraded charge of first-degree rape. But Woody has a perspective on this case that most people don't.He previously worked for Mansell's defense attorney, Cy D'Aquila, as a defense consultant and polygraph examiner. In this episode, Woody explains what he reviewed before conducting the examination, his concerns about how the child was repeatedly interviewed, the importance of proper Child Advocacy Center protocols, and why he believes those investigative procedures matter regardless of whether an allegation is ultimately proven true or false.Woody also reveals that he personally administered a polygraph examination to Mansell and says Mansell showed no deception indicated on the questions Woody asked. He explains how he conducts these examinations, the countermeasures he watches for, and why he says he approached Mansell's examination without assuming either guilt or innocence. The episode also examines clinical psychologist Dr. Alan Taylor's involvement in the custody proceedings. Mansell's attorney has publicly said Taylor characterized the matter as the worst case of parental alienation he had encountered, although reporting notes that phrase did not appear in Taylor's written custody recommendations.Woody's larger question is one at the heart of the criminal justice system: What happens when an accusation is horrifying, public reaction is immediate, but the underlying investigation is more complicated than a headline can convey? And this isn't over.Woody ends Episode 280 by setting up the next chapter: he recently sat through approximately three and a half hours of courtroom proceedings involving the Mansell case. In the next episode, he's going to explain what he personally witnessed as the prosecution and defense battled in court.Woody Overton takes listeners inside the controversial Jacob Mansell case in West Feliciana Parish. Woody explains his own involvement as a defense consultant and polygraph examiner, his concerns about the investigative process and repeated interviews of the child, the custody decisions that ignited public controversy, and Mansell's new first-degree rape indictment. Then Woody previews what he personally witnessed during an extraordinary three-and-a-half-hour courtroom battle—and why the next episode may change how listeners view the case.Real Life Real Crime, Woody Overton, Jacob Mansell, Mansell case, West Feliciana Parish, Cy D'Aquila, Sam D'Aquilla, Sydney Picou Walker, Kathryn Jones, Dr Alan Taylor, parental alienation, Child Advocacy Center, CAC interview, forensic child interview, polygraph examination, Louisiana criminal justice, first degree rape indictment, sexual battery, second degree rape, West Feliciana Parish court, Louisiana true crime, RLRC

Jacob Mansell case

Woody Overton's involvement in the investigation

Cy D'Aquila and the defense

District Attorney Sam D'Aquilla

Child Advocacy Center interview protocols

Repeated interviews of child witnesses

Woody's polygraph examination of Mansell

Polygraph countermeasures

Dr. Alan Taylor's custody evaluation

Parental-alienation claims

Judges Sydney Picou Walker and Kathryn Jones

No-contact order and custody controversy

Grand-jury process

First-degree rape indictment

Presumption of innocence and due process

Preview of Woody's firsthand courtroom observations

Our Sponsors: * Check out BetterHelp: https://www.betterhelp.com * Check out Progressive: https://www.progressive.com Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/real-life-real-crime/donations Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
