Imagine if every time we went to Boston Common, winter, spring or summer, no matter the time of day, someone decided who we could see or listen to, who could see us,  and even what we could wear. We would call it tyranny. So why do we allow that in our digital commons? Monopolies (including social media) not only invade our privacy, control every pillar of our digital countryside, they crush innovation and depress wages. They also eliminate countless small digital businesses and along with them, meaningful work. The technology we are using today under social media monopoly control is 20 years old. It's like being forced to use a Model-T to be allowed on public roads.And if you dump your social media company? Unlike your phone - you lose all your contacts and all the numbers in your address book. What if social media platforms were standardized to enable inter-network communication?
